set-tor-user is a bash script that configures Tor Browser Bundle (TBB) to be run as the specified user, when ownership belongs to root. This script is useful if you wish to install TBB to your system via a package management system, have multiple user accounts using TBB or would like to include TBB in a custom set of installation ISO's. This script must be placed in the TBB root dir and ran as root. * Using set-tor-user Usage: set-tor-user [options] [username] Options: -g, --group [groupname] Sets group default: "users" -r, --restore Removes all files created by set-tor-user from the system and restores TBB to its original state. Examples: set-tor-user xocel set-tor-user xocel -g groupx set-tor-user --restore * Automatically launching script on user login If you would like the script to be launched when ever a user logs in (If multiple people use the computer for example) the easiest way to achieve this is via a session manager. In kdm for example, configure /etc/kde/kdm/Xstartup adding something like the following to the end of the script. if [ -x /opt/tor_browser_bundle/set-tor-user ]; then /opt/tor_browser_bundle/set-tor-user $USER fi; Now when ever a user logs in via kdm, TBB will be configured for them, all ready to go. Both gdm and xdm have equivalent scripts to Xstartup that set-tor-user can be launched from. * Upgrading or uninstalling It is highly recommended using the restore option before removing or upgrading TBB. This ensures all files created or changed by set-tor-user are removed or restored to their original state allowing the upgrade/uninstall to run successfully. E.g: set-tor-user --restore Note: set-tor-user is not affiliated with/or supported by the Tor Project. For all enquiries/feedback contact the maintainer of this script. All feedback is much appreciated. Luke Williams xocel@iquidus.org
