Version 2.1.0 for KDE 3

A personal alarm message, command and email scheduler for KDE.

DESCRIPTION

KAlarm provides a graphical interface to schedule personal timed events -
pop-up alarm messages, command execution and the sending of emails. It has a
wide range of options, including:

 * Configuring alarms to recur on an hours/minutes, daily, weekly, monthly or
annual basis, or setting them to trigger every time you log in.

 * Choice of whether or not an alarm should be cancelled if it can't be
triggered at its scheduled time. An alarm can only be triggered while you
are logged in and running a graphical environment. If you choose not to
cancel the alarm if it can't be triggered at the correct time, it will be
triggered when you eventually log in.

Options for pop-up alarms include:

 * Speaking the message.

 * Playing a sound file when the alarm is displayed.

 * Setting a reminder to be displayed in advance of the main alarm time(s).

 * Selection of the alarm message's colour and font.

As an alternative to using the graphical interface, you can schedule alarms
from the command line or via DCOP calls from other programs. KAlarm is
KDE-based, but will also run on other desktops.

See the INSTALL file, or INSTALL.html, for installation instructions.

USE ON NON-KDE DESKTOPS

For details on the requirements for setting up KAlarm to run on non-KDE
desktops, see the INSTALL file, or INSTALL.html.

SOFTWARE COMMON TO KDEPIM

KAlarm is part of the KDE package 'kdepim' in KDE 3. This is a standalone
version of KAlarm for use if 'kdepim' is not installed, or to update the
KAlarm version provided by 'kdepim'.

The following libraries are copied from the latest version of the KDE package
'kdepim'. KAlarm incorporates them internally, so there is no compatibility
problem with any 'kdepim' applications. The versions in this package, with the
exception of libical, omit functionality not required by KAlarm.

* libical: a basic iCalendar protocol implementation, see RFCs 2245, 2246.
           Also includes the library libicalss.
* libkcal: C++ api for the iCalendar and vCalendar formats.
* libkmime: email message composition library.
* libkdepim: general functions used by kdepim.
* libkpimidentities: email identity handling classes.

BUGS, COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS:

Bug reports, comments and suggestions are welcome. Please send them to
David Jarvie <software@astrojar.org.uk>.

Bugs can also be reported to the KDE bug tracking system (http://bugs.kde.org).
There you can also get information about the status of older bugs.
KAlarm, as most other KDE programs, offers a menu item "Report Bug" in the
Help menu for convenient reporting of bugs or feature requests.

The file BUGS.html contains a list of known bugs, and a wish list of new features.

RESTRICTIONS IN OLDER KDE 3 VERSIONS

Earlier KDE 3 versions lack some of the functionality of the latest KDE version,
and KAlarm therefore has certain restrictions when running on them:

- The Speak option for display alarms is not available in KDE earlier than 3.4,
unless you have installed kttsd from the unofficial kdeaccessibility package.
