Presentation of the Slint installer. Slint can be installed on a 64bit computer only. the system itself uses around 20G of disk space. The installer is a "live system", running in memory: it will not modify an installed system, unless and until you tell it to. For blind users the installer speaks using the speakup screen redear. if you didn't already use it, before installing read the document Speakup and learn the most important key bindings. For expert users it includes all needed utilities to manually partition and format the drive on which Slint will be installed. Then typing 'setup' will start a menu to perform further tasks. This process is detailed in Manual. Mew Linux users who prefer a more automatized installation will type 'auto'. In this mode there is no Linux command to type and a contextual help is provided. The installer can free some space for Slint on a drive where you want to install it alongside another Linux. The document FreeSpace tells how to prepare a drive where Windows is installed before installing Slint alongside it. If installed alone on a removable device connected through USB, Slint can be made portable, i.e. usable on any computer able to boot off an USB drive. the installer can encrypt the drive where Slint is installed alone. This prevents the steal of data it contains in case of loss or theft of the machine, or of a removable drive. To use the installer you type commands at a prompt or select options in a menu; to know more read Usage The installer can also be used as a PXE server allowing to install Slint remotely typing 'pxesetup'.
