The ISO image in this directory: https://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint-15.0/slintsalix/ allows to install a slightly customized and pre-configured Salix64-15.0. The installer is nearly identical to the one used to install as Slint64-15.0 system, as described in: https://slint.fr/en/HandBook.html#_install_slint The installation of Salix can be done in the same languages as Slint. At time of writing: English (USA) Dutch French German Greek Italian Portuguese (Portugal) Russian Swedish This ISO and the installer it includes provides additional features: - The installer as the installed system are accessible in text mode (in a tty) to blind people using a refreshable Braille device or hardware or software synthesizer. - The installer gives the choice between manual or automatic partitioning. - The installer can set a zstd compressed BTRFS system with subvolumes for / and /home in the same partition. Thus the installed system uses less than 5G of space on disk. - The installer can encrypt the root partition without resorting to LVM. - The installer allows to easily install Salix in a removable drive, like an USB stick. - The installer sets swap in zram, allowing to use in the installed system twice the physical RAM. - In the installer as the installed system have a recent LTS kernel (version 6.12.47 at time of writing allowing to install or fairly recent hardware. - If it can set an internet connection the installer gets from remote repositories the most packages. Most of the information in https://slint.fr/en/HandBook.html#_install_slint applies to Salix. The added features of the installed system are detailed in: https://slackware.uk/slint/x86_64/slint-15.0/slintsalix/FEATURES WARNING: Some included packages coming from a Slint repository should not be replaced running slapt-get --upgrade. To avoid that You can just edit the file /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc to replace the line beginning with EXCLUDE= by this one: EXCLUDE=^aaa_elflibs,^aaa_base,^devs,^glibc.*,^kernel-.*,^rootuser-settings,^zzz-settings.*,-i?86-,brltty,btrfs-progs,espeakup,grub,intel-microcode,swapinzram Limitations and known issues at time of writing: - This installer is available in less languages than the genuine Salix one. - The installer allows to do install all sets of packages. A more modular approach could be implemented if there is an interest (like core, basic of full). - When booting in text mode (aka runlevel 3) you need to press Enter after the last message displayed to log in. - The package libostree from Salix (replaced by ostree from Slint) should be blacklisted in /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc because it installs the file /etc/dracut.conf.d/ostree.conf whose presence make dracut fail. - /etc/rc.d/rc.thinkfan is made non executable by default because starting thinkfan make it complain about the lack of /etc/thikfan.conf This installer and the installed system are not endorsed by Salix. Use at your own risks. Have fun! Document last updated on 15 September 2025
